We Launched
May 19, 2023
WE DID IT!!!! Yes, we finally embarked on the great loop. In the effort to do something truly extraordinary, different and or unique ... you learn a lot. Some of my big take-a-ways so far:
- Life constantly pulls you in directions other than what is intended. At every turn there is something to distract or discourage you from you goal. This can be health, financial, family or situational ... there is always something to overcome. But the big take-a-way was stay focused, persevere and stay positive. You can make it happen.
- People are wonderful! For the last 3+ years our friends, neighbors and family have encouraged us, picked us up, pushed us sometimes and most of all supported our goals. Multiple came down to the dock to see us off (Catherine, Susan and Gene ... we love you). We wouldn't have gotten here without you. People make this world and the world is a great place. Thank you everyone.
- Bill and Regina McCrorie are AMAZING because they do similar extraordinary adventures all the time and make it look effortless.
The excitement of a beautiful launch was quickly dampened by an angry Chesapeake Bay. Just a mile out of Dividing Creek, we were facing 4+ foot waves. After slogging it north for about 10 miles, we decided to duck into Reedville. The forecast was a happy bay and we thought we would give it an hour to settle itself down. It did! Yea.
Just north of the Potomac we had a delightful surprise. On my AIS (Automatic Identification System) a boat appeared about 3 miles ahead and we were overtaking it at a good clip. AIS allows you to "inspect" the vessel to know what is there. Upon doing this I was surprised to learn it was another Aspen (C120)! We quickly overtook and shared pictures of each other. They were on the LAST day of their Great Loop adventure (and we on our first).
We made it to St. Michael's Md with no issue and found a nice anchorage. Catherine and Ron (Sister and Brother-in-law) and George and Simona (Brother and Girlfriend) came and joined us for the evening. Great to see all.
For those wondering, Yudee is loving life:

May God Bless Your Journey and May St. Christopher help you steer the boat! Love Glenn & Jo
